Admongo - Learn to decode and understand ads

Admongo (www.admongo.gov) is the FTC's new advertising literacycampaign. Every day, kids are exposed to advertising - not just on TV and online, but on buses, buildings, and even inside their classrooms. Many ads target kids ages 8-12. Given what kids see and hear around them, it's important that they learn how to decode and understand ads.

To help, the FTC created a campaign to teach kids about advertising, Thecore of the campaign is a fun (and visually fabulous!) website. Learn who is responsible for the ad, what the ad actually says, and what the ad wants you to do.

Learn About Deceptions in Advertising!

The Ad Decoder could be a good way to teach students how to recognize deceptions in advertising. The activity is simple, but provides students with useful information about advertising and the hidden meanings in advertising. The Ad Decoder has quizzes students can take regarding advertising. The Ad Decoder also offers an in-depth look at advertising practices which they call Under the Microscope.
